Moen Home Additions & ADU: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Orlando and want Moen fixtures specified throughout, we install them as part of full-scale additions starting at $45,000 and going up to $130,000 depending on square footage, foundation work, and finish level. Most Orlando homeowners reach out after a previous contractor quoted one number and then handed them a change order mid-framing, or after a bathroom or kitchen in an older home simply stopped functioning the way a growing family needs it to. The Moen part of the equation matters because fixtures get roughed in early, so choosing them before drywall goes up saves you from cutting into finished walls later.

We’re an independent remodeling contractor, not a Moen dealer or affiliate. What we do is specify and install Moen fixtures, faucets, and shower systems across kitchen remodels, bathroom remodels, whole-home additions, and ADU builds in Orlando. If you already have a Moen product that’s failing, we can diagnose it, replace the cartridge or valve body, and get your water flowing correctly again. If you’re building new, we help you pick the right Moen series for your water pressure and your budget, then install it to spec.
Which Moen Models This Applies To

Moen builds fixtures across three broad tiers, and knowing which one you have changes how we approach the job. The Chateau and Eva lines are entry-level but solid, using the same 1225 cartridge Moen has made for decades. The Brushed Gold and Align series sit mid-tier with ceramic disc cartridges (the 1255) that resist Orlando’s mineral-heavy water better than the older design. The Weil and Voss lines are the high end, with larger valve bodies and, on some models, M-CORE valve technology that needs a different trim kit than a standard Posi-Temp valve.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see most often in Orlando remodels: a homeowner picks a nice Moen Align trim kit online, but behind the wall is an old Moentrol valve from the 1990s. The trim doesn’t fit. Before you buy any trim, pull the handle and read the markings on the valve body. If you’re not sure, snap a photo and send it to us, or call (850) 427-6454 and we’ll walk you through it. We’ve matched enough of these in College Park bungalows to know what 1950s plumbing looks like behind those original tile walls.
For replacements, we recommend genuine Moen OEM cartridges over aftermarket equivalents. The aftermarket 1225 copies cost about half as much but the rubber seals harden faster in Florida heat, and you’ll be back in there within two years. A genuine Moen cartridge runs $25 to $60 depending on the model, and that’s a part worth paying for. On the fixture side, Moen’s lifetime warranty covers most finishes and cartridges for the original owner, but it won’t cover labor, and it won’t cover a valve body that’s reamed out by Orlando’s hard water.

Signs Your Moen Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- The handle requires more and more rotation to shut the water off. This is cartridge wear. In Orlando’s water, calcium and lime build up on the cartridge stem, and the rubber seals lose compression. You’ll notice it first in the shower you use every day.
- You’re getting a slow drip that’s slowly becoming a stream. A worn 1225 cartridge seat is almost always the culprit. Left alone, that drip raises your water bill by $15 to $30 a month, which pays for the repair in under six months.
- Water temperature swings when someone flushes a toilet. Moen’s Posi-Temp pressure-balancing valve should prevent this. If you’re getting scalded or frozen, the balancing spool inside the valve is seized from mineral buildup. That’s a cartridge replacement, not a handle adjustment.
- Low pressure from one fixture but not the others. If your Moen kitchen faucet dribbles while the bathroom’s fine, pull the aerator and flush it. If it’s still weak, the supply lines or the valve inlet are clogged. In older Orlando homes, galvanized supply lines shed rust that collects right at the Moen valve inlet.
- The finish is pitting or peeling around the base. This is a cosmetic warning sign, but it tells you the fixture has seen years of hard water. In Orlando, the municipal water runs 120-140 ppm of dissolved minerals. Satin and brushed finishes hide this better than polished chrome; we steer clients toward brushed nickel or stainless for exactly that reason.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Moen-specific repair in an existing Orlando home, a cartridge replacement typically runs $175 – $350 including the genuine Moen part and our labor. A full faucet or shower trim replacement with new valve body runs $400 – $1,200 depending on the series and whether we’re opening the wall. If the Moen work is part of a larger remodel, those numbers fold into the project price, which starts at $9,000 for a small bathroom and $14,000 for a kitchen.
What drives the range: access (crawlspace plumbing in a 1950s College Park bungalow costs more than a slab home with a closet access panel), wall substrate condition (if the tile is failing, we’re replacing the cement board substrate, the moisture-resistant layer behind your tile, not just swapping the valve), and the Moen series you choose for the replacement. Our price includes the written quote before we start, the parts, the labor, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the repair fails inside the warranty period, we come back at no charge, and the second visit is free.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a Moen cartridge is one of the more approachable plumbing repairs, but it goes sideways quickly when the retaining clip is corroded in place or the valve body itself is scored. If you strip the brass threads on a Moentrol valve while forcing it, you’ve turned a $200 cartridge swap into a $900 valve replacement. Trevor Nash, our owner, learned this the hard way on a Los Angeles remodel years ago, and he’s been telling clients to call before forcing anything ever since.
What you can safely do: shut off the water supply, remove the handle and trim plate, and take a photo of the valve to confirm which Moen cartridge you need. If it’s a simple 1225 swap and you’re comfortable with a retaining clip and a puller tool, go for it. If you feel any resistance beyond that, or if the water won’t fully shut off, stop. Call (850) 427-6454 and we’ll get it done right, with a number in writing before we pick up a tool.
FAQs

A well-maintained Moen faucet or shower valve should last 10 to 15 years in Orlando before the cartridge or finish needs real attention. Our hard water shortens that timeline for cartridges to about 7 to 10 years. The valve body itself, if it’s brass, will outlast the house. If you’re on a well rather than municipal water, expect more sediment and shorter intervals between service. Call (850) 427-6454 if you’re unsure whether your fixture is worth rebuilding or replacing.
Yes, and in about 80% of the Moen service calls we run in Orlando, a cartridge replacement fixes the drip or the pressure problem without touching the fixture body. The exceptions are pitted valve seats, cracked bodies from years of hard water, or finish failure where the trim looks bad enough that you’re better off replacing the entire escutcheon and handle assembly. We’ll tell you which one you’re in before any work starts.
A standard cartridge replacement takes 45 minutes to an hour and a half, including shutting water off and testing pressure and temperature balance at the end. A full valve body replacement takes 3 to 5 hours because we open the wall, cut out the old valve, sweat in the new one, and patch the substrate. For a full bathroom or kitchen remodel where Moen is one component among many, the whole project typically runs 2 to 6 weeks depending on scope.
We keep genuine Moen 1225 and 1255 cartridges on the truck because they cover the majority of Orlando homes. For M-CORE valves, Weil trim kits, and specialty finishes, we order from our supplier and typically have the part in 2 to 3 business days. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on the remodel side, so if your Moen fixture is part of a larger kitchen or bath project, we can coordinate the whole material list without you chasing parts across three different stores.
