Cover Driveway & Pavers: The Orlando Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Cover-compatible driveway and paver components throughout Orlando, with typical installed paver driveway work running $7,000 – $18,000 and full driveway replacement between $5,000 and $14,000 depending on square footage, base condition, and paver style. Most Orlando homeowners discover a failing paver section the hard way: a low spot fills with water after an afternoon thunderstorm, a paver shifts underfoot near the garage apron, or the sand joints between pavers have washed out to the point where weeds are sprouting through. The good news is this is almost never a full-teardown situation. You’re usually looking at a section repair, re-leveling, or edge-restraint fix that can be handled in a day or two.

Penhallow Remodeling Orlando is an independent contractor, not affiliated with Cover, but we work with Cover-compatible driveway and paver materials regularly and know exactly what to order, what to match against, and what fails first in central Florida’s soil and weather. Give you the number first, then pick up the tool. That’s how we operate.

Cover driveway and paver products span a few distinct lines, and the compatibility gotcha most homeowners run into is this: paver thickness isn’t a one-size-fits-all spec. Cover’s standard residential pavers typically come in 60mm (about 2-3/8 inches) for pedestrian patios and walkways, while driveway-rated units are 80mm (about 3-1/8 inches) or thicker. If your original installer used 60mm pavers on a driveway that now sees two SUVs and a delivery van, that’s not a material defect. That’s the wrong spec for the load, and it’s one of the most common failure sources we see in College Park and Winter Park driveways.

To identify what you have, check the underside of a loose paver for a stamped mold number or thickness marking. Most Cover-compatible lines also have a subtle color-code on the side of the packaging or on the pallet slip from the original install. If that paperwork is long gone, we can match by measuring thickness, chamfer profile (the beveled edge shape), and surface texture against current Cover-compatible inventory. For OEM versus aftermarket: on driveway pavers specifically, we lean toward OEM-spec units when we’re doing a partial repair on a driveway that’s less than five years old, because even a small color or texture mismatch shows under Orlando’s flat, bright sunlight. On older driveways where the sun has already faded the original color, a quality aftermarket equivalent with a matched finish often blends better than a brand-new OEM paver sitting next to a ten-year-old one.

Signs Your Cover Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Low spots that hold water after rain. Orlando’s summer downpours expose base compaction problems fast. If water ponds in the same spot for more than an hour after the rain stops, the sand base or the soil beneath it has settled or washed out, and that section needs to be lifted, re-leveled, and re-compacted.
  • Pavers rocking or chairing when you step on them. A paver that tips under foot means the bedding sand layer has migrated or the edge restraint has failed. Left alone, this spreads to adjacent pavers and turns a two-paver fix into a sixty-square-foot repair.
  • Weeds pushing up between joints despite regular pulling. Once the joint sand has washed out past the edge restraint, nothing is holding the pavers in place laterally. Florida’s warm-season weed pressure does the rest. Pulling weeds is treating the symptom; stabilizing the base and refreshing joint sand is the fix.
  • Visible gaps at the driveway edge where pavers meet the lawn or curb. Edge restraint failure is the most underrated driveway problem in Orlando. Once the plastic or aluminum edge comes loose, the whole field can drift outward over a matter of months, especially on driveways with any slope.
  • Cracking or spalling on individual pavers near the wheel tracks. In driveways, the two tire paths carry the most load. A properly spec’d 80mm paver over a properly compacted base should not crack under residential vehicle weight. If it does, we’re usually looking at a point-load issue, a void in the base beneath the crack, or the wrong paver thickness for the application.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Orlando, paver driveway installation runs $7,000 – $18,000 for a typical two-car driveway, while a full driveway replacement lands between $5,000 and $14,000 depending on whether you’re going back with concrete, asphalt, or pavers. If you’re doing a section repair on an existing paver driveway (lifting, re-leveling, and re-setting a failed area), you’re typically looking at a fraction of that depending on square footage and base condition. What drives the number up: driveway size, the depth of the existing base and whether it needs to be rebuilt, the paver thickness and style you choose, and whether your Orlando property sits on sandy soil that drains well or clay-heavy soil that holds water and requires more base work.

Every job we quote includes the full breakdown: materials, labor, base work, haul-away of old material, and a written warranty. We put the price in writing before any work starts. That number is the number, not a starting point. And if something fails within 365 days, the Done Right Promise means we come back and make it right at no charge, in writing, on every project.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can safely do yourself. You can sweep and hose down your driveway to see where water is ponding. You can check edge restraints by walking the perimeter and looking for plastic or metal that’s pulled away from the pavers. You can note which pavers rock underfoot and mark them with chalk so you can track whether the problem is spreading. What you should not do is lift a settled section and start re-setting pavers without knowing what’s happening in the base underneath. If the base has failed (and in Orlando, it usually has), re-setting pavers on a bad base means the same failure comes back in six weeks after the next heavy rain. That’s money and a weekend you don’t get back.

If you want a real diagnosis and a written number, call (850) 427-6454. We’ll come look, tell you honestly whether it’s a two-day fix or a full rebuild, and give you the price before anything gets picked up.
