CWS Windows & Doors: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
If you own a CWS window or door in Orlando, the part most likely to give you trouble is the roller assembly on sliding glass doors, followed closely by the balance shoe on single-hung windows. We stock CWS-compatible replacement parts and install them for $180 – $540 per window or door, depending on the part, the finish, and whether you have impact-rated glazing. Most CWS parts failures start quietly: a door that suddenly needs a hip-check to slide, a window sash that drops two inches when you let go, or a latch that no longer catches the keeper. You’ll notice it before it fully fails, and catching it early usually means a part swap instead of a frame rebuild.

Which CWS Models This Applies To
In the Orlando market, we most often see CWS Architectural Series and CWS Estate Series windows and doors in homes built from the mid-2000s onward. The model number matters more than the marketing name. Look for a small white or silver sticker on the inside edge of the door panel or the top rail of the window sash. The sticker carries a four-digit series code and the glass package rating. If the sticker is gone, measure the visible glass width and the overall frame depth: CWS impact-rated frames run 3-1/4 inches deep, while their non-impact frames sit closer to 2-3/4 inches. That difference alone rules out about half the generic replacement parts sold online. For rollers and hinges, OEM CWS parts are the safe call. For balance shoes, springs, and weatherstripping, we’ve found quality aftermarket equivalents from Prime-Line and Amesbury that match CWS tolerances and hold up as well in Florida humidity, at roughly 40% less than OEM.

Signs Your CWS Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The door drags or sticks about halfway open. This is almost always a flattened bottom roller. The nylon wheel develops a flat spot from grit in the track, and the door starts riding on the housing instead of the wheel. Left alone, it scores the track and you’re replacing the sill extrusion, not just the roller.
- The window sash won’t stay up. That’s a failed balance shoe or a broken spiral balance. In CWS single-hungs, the shoe is a plastic block inside the jamb channel that locks the spring tension. Florida heat embrittles the plastic, and one day it simply snaps.
- The handle turns but the door doesn’t move. A broken mortise lock spindle. The spindle is the square metal rod connecting handle to latch mechanism. They shear under repeated force from an unaligned door panel.
- You can see daylight or feel a draft along the door jamb. The sweep gasket and corner seals flatten with age, especially on west-facing doors in Orlando that get hammered by afternoon sun. The door itself is usually fine. The seals are a ten-minute fix.
- Water beads inside the glass when it rains. That means the insulated glass unit’s seal has failed and the argon or krypton fill is gone. With CWS impact-rated units, this isn’t a do-it-yourself reglaze. The whole sash or door panel needs a new IG unit.

What drives the range: whether your CWS unit is impact-rated, whether the extruded aluminum track needs dressing or replacement, and whether you want OEM or aftermarket parts. The labor on a roller swap is about an hour per panel. We give you a written price before any work starts, so the number on the invoice matches the number on the estimate. Every part we install carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the new part fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No service call fee, no re-inspection fee.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things you can check safely before calling anyone. First, clean the bottom track with a dry brush and check for small rocks or grit. Second, adjust the roller height screws on the door’s bottom edge if your CWS panel has them. That’s it. Beyond that? A sliding door panel on an impact-rated CWS unit can weigh 160 to 220 pounds. Getting one off the track without the right lift sequence will bend the frame or take out a toe. Window balance springs are under constant tension, and releasing one wrong sends the shoe flying out of the jamb channel. If you’ve done the cleaning and the adjustment and the door still drags, the part is done. Call us at (850) 427-6454 and we’ll match the part and swap it.
FAQs

Rollers and weatherstripping typically last 5 to 8 years in Orlando’s sun and humidity. Balance shoes can go 10-plus years on protected elevations, but east- and west-facing windows burn through them faster, usually 6 to 8 years. Impact-rated glass units carry longer warranties from CWS, often 10 years on the seal.
Rollers, spindles, and balance shoes cannot be repaired. They are wear items with moving or tensioned internal parts. Weatherstripping and sweeps can sometimes be cleaned and re-seated, which buys a few months, but if the rubber is flattened or cracked, replacement is the only fix that holds. Call (850) 427-6454 if you’re not sure which one you’re looking at. We’ll tell you over the phone.
Most CWS roller, balance shoe, and handle replacements take 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on how many panels or sashes are involved. A field-glazed impact glass unit replacement usually runs half a day because the new IG unit has to be set, shimmed, and sealed in place. You’ll know the window on the work before anyone picks up a tool.
We stock CWS-compatible rollers, balance shoes, spindles, handles, and weatherstripping in common Orlando sizes on our service trucks. Odd-size IG units are ordered to spec and typically arrive in one to two weeks. We also carry parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products when the same home needs those touched up.
