Atlas Driveway & Pavers: The Orlando Owner’s Guide

We install and service Atlas-compatible paver driveways, patios, and walkways throughout Orlando, with most paver driveway installations running $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, base condition, and paver style. If your Atlas pavers are shifting, sinking, or separating at the joints, you’ve likely got a base failure or edge-restraint problem, not a paver problem. We can usually assess it in one visit and give you a written number before any work starts.

Most homeowners discover a failing Atlas paver system the same way: a corner paver starts wobbling underfoot, then a low spot appears after a heavy Orlando rain, and within a few months the whole section looks like a mild earthquake hit it. The pavers themselves rarely fail. What fails is what’s underneath them. In Orlando’s sandy, fast-draining soil, base washout is the most common culprit we see, especially in neighborhoods like College Park and Baldwin Park where mature tree roots push and shift over time. We’re not affiliated with Atlas, but we’ve worked with their pavers long enough to know exactly what goes wrong and what it takes to fix it right.

Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas manufactures interlocking concrete pavers in three broad series that account for most of what we see in Orlando driveways: the traditional rectangular Holland/4×8 series, the larger-format 6×9 and 6×13 plank-style pavers, and tumbled-edge cobblestone lines. The good news is Atlas pavers use an industry-standard sizing system, which means we can source matching or dimensionally identical pavers from Techo-Bloc, Belgard, or Unilock if a specific Atlas color or finish has been discontinued.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most owners don’t know: Atlas tumbled pavers are manufactured with a slightly irregular edge profile, so a crisp new paver dropped into a 15-year-old tumbled driveway will stand out like a thumb. If you’re replacing more than a handful of pavers, we usually recommend pulling from a hidden section (like behind a planter or along the side yard) and using new stock where it’s less visible. Another spec worth knowing: Atlas 60mm pavers are rated for residential driveway traffic, but 40mm pavers are for patios and walkways only. We’ve seen driveways built with 40mm pavers that failed prematurely because the original installer bought the cheaper product. Identify your paver thickness before anything else. If you can find a stamped code on the underside of a loose paver, we can usually trace the exact series and run.

For replacements, we carry common Atlas 4×8 and 6×9 pavers (gray and tan colorways) on our trucks. If you need a less common color or a tumbled finish, we order from a local Orlando supplier and typically have it within three to five business days.

Signs Your Atlas Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Rutting or tire-well depressions. You see two shallow troughs running the length of the driveway where your car tires sit. This means the base material under the pavers was never compacted properly, or the original installer skimped on base depth. We see this constantly on Orlando homes built in the early 2000s, when fast construction was the priority.
  • Joint sand washing out after every rain. You sweep sand back into the joints, and the next downpour flushes it out again. This points to poor edge restraint or improper joint sand; without that sand, pavers start shifting against each other and chipping at the edges.
  • One or two pavers rocking or popping up. A rocking paver usually means a void has opened in the bedding layer below. In Orlando’s sandy loam soil, ant colonies and root activity create these voids faster than you’d expect.
  • Water pooling in a low spot that used to drain. Pavers are permeable by design, but a a pooling section tells you the base has settled unevenly. Standing water here attracts the ant activity that makes the problem worse.
  • Edge pavers separating from the border or walkway. When the plastic edge restraint snaps or the spikes pull out of the soil, the outer pavers start migrating outward. Your straight lines start to curve, and gaps open up. This is a mechanical failure, not a cosmetic one, and it’ll get worse every time a car tire catches that outside edge.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For most Orlando Atlas paver driveway repairs, we price by the scope of what’s failing. A targeted repair (replacing a handful of sunken pavers, re-setting a 10×10 section, adding base material where it’s washed out) typically runs $500 – $2,500 depending on how deep we have to excavate. When the base has failed across the whole driveway, you’re looking at a partial or full re-set, which in Orlando costs between $7,000 and $18,000 for a typical two-car driveway (400 – 700 square feet), including new base material, re-leveling, joint sand, and edge restraints. The price moves based on paver style, access to the site, and whether we can re-use your existing pavers or need to source new ones.

What’s included in our number: we excavate the failing base, haul it away, install fresh graded base material, re-set the pavers, fill the joints with polymeric sand, and secure the edges. You get that price in writing before we start, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise applies: if the repair fails inside that window, we come back and make it right at no charge. We also include a written guarantee with every paver repair we do in Orlando.

DIY or Call Us?

Paver repair is less dangerous than electrical or garage-spring work, so there’s no high-tension safety warning here. What you can safely do: check your edge restraints for visible cracks, test for rocking pavers, and inspect your joint sand after a rain. That’s useful information to have when you call. But here’s where DIY paver repair goes sideways: pulling up pavers without stabilizing the base underneath just moves the problem around. If you add a bag of sand and set a paver back down without addressing what caused the void, you’ll be doing it again in six months. And re-compacting a sub-base by hand with a tamper is not the same as machine compaction; that’s why our repairs stay fixed. If you’re thinking about it, call us at (850) 427-6454 first. We’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a weekend fix or a base rebuild, and the estimate is free.
